ARC: Antique Radio Club

One of the spare Vanguard 1 satellites.
  • October 4, 1957: Sputnik 1 launched.
    It beeped, was tracked by Camp Evans, and eventually fell out of orbit.
  • December 6, 1957: Vanguard TV3 blew up during the televised launch.
  • March 17, 1958: Vanguard 1 became the second artificial satellite
    successfully placed in Earth orbit by the United States.
    It was the first solar-powered satellite and is still in orbit.
